The sun had just begun to soften its light when we wrapped up our first prize distribution ceremony at Vivekananda Vidya Niketan. With our bags filled with medals and certificates, we headed toward our next destination Dopukuria Vidyasagar Vidyapith, where eleven enthusiastic students had appeared for the Little Genius Level II exam.
To reach Dopukuria, we needed to cross the mighty Bhagirathi River. That day, the river was unusually restless. Strong currents pushed against the boat, waves slapped its sides, and the wind carried a sense of uncertainty. Midway through the journey, we noticed another boat drifting helplessly its engine had failed. The sight added to the tension, but trusting the boatman’s experience, we continued forward and finally reached the riverbank safely. It felt as though we had crossed more than a river we had crossed a moment of fear together.
We arrived at the school before our scheduled time of 11:30 AM. As we stepped inside, a few guardians approached us and asked, “Are you from the Slato App?” Their surprised expressions revealed that they had not been informed about the ceremony. Some had urgent commitments and had to leave, though we requested them to stay.
Still, eight out of the eleven participants were present each with bright, excited eyes. Together with the teachers, we organized a small yet meaningful celebration inside a classroom. Medals found their way around little necks, certificates were received with shy smiles, and the room filled with an energy that made every challenge worthwhile.
The principal appreciated the impact of the Little Genius exam, noting that it was helping students and motivating them to explore more opportunities. He also mentioned that participation from Classes 3 and 4 was low because the exam took place just before the Puja vacation, when many students were absent. However, he assured us of maximum participation in the upcoming exam.
Little Genius winners.
Before leaving, we briefed the teachers about the next exam scheduled for 17th December and shared the registration guidelines. They assured us they would support parents in registering through UPI, Invites, or using their account coins.
As we began our return journey, the memories of the turbulent river, the eager smiles of students, and the principal’s encouraging words merged into a powerful reflection some journeys become unforgettable not because of where they take you, but because of how deeply they make you feel. And that day, Dopukuria gifted us a story worth carrying forward.
